Google’s Focus on Developer Tools Is as Crucial as Android Updates

Most of us are grateful to have a smartphone. We love what we can do with one, rely on it for many of our daily duties, and have one with us at all times. With the appropriate phone, your life improves in a variety of ways.

Did you ever think about why? Choosing the proper phone might be difficult because there are so many options, but once that is done, we usually just start using it without considering the features that make a phone helpful.

None of this would be possible without people creating software that runs on top of Android. You may be surprised to learn that Android is essentially just software that can boot up a phone, support the hardware inside it, and serve as a platform for other software to operate. It’s the other software you rely on or like using daily.

That’s why I believe the most crucial updates from Google are for the “official” developer tools. You want to utilize your phone because it has improvements to the Android Studio development environment and other tools that developers require.

I am not an application developer. I’ve developed a few apps for Android and iOS to learn how the process works, but I’ve never attempted to create an app that you’d want to use. That experience did teach me a few things, however, including the importance of tools over anything else Google can do to advance Android as a platform.

A recent update to the Android emulator (software that “runs” Android, allowing apps to be tested in a live environment) offers an excellent example. Almost every developer relies on the emulator, and there are certain challenges with it. Even with the most powerful computer hardware, it would eventually become sluggish or lock up. Google chose to focus on enhancing it, and the most recent version is excellent. It is still not flawless, but Google has not stated that it is finished working on it.

Google hasn’t always done a great job here. It’s simple to become an Android app developer, and if you’re acquainted with any type of software development, you may have an app ready for the Play Store in a few hours. However, when it comes to a decent app, all of that goes out the window. Initially, bad developer tools resulted in a million bad apps in the Play Store for every good one. People don’t want to design bad apps, and happily, Google recognized the importance of supporting everyone, including you, who wants to create the next great Android app.

Writing an app that people will want to use is difficult. First, you must come up with the proper idea, work through the challenges that you anticipate will surface when you begin, identify ways to make your program operate with hundreds of various devices, and then write the good code that makes an app wonderful. Without the proper tools, most of this will be extremely tough.

You are probably not an app developer, so enhancements to these tools and new features in Android Studio are unlikely to pique your interest. You merely need to recognize that these updates are crucial, sometimes more so than the information you will receive on your phone.

These are the features that improve your phone and the overall experience on Android.
